NASCAR Truck 2023 Bristol Recap

BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY (DIRT)

Start: 24th | Finish: 10th | Driver Points: 9th | Owner Points: 11th

Race Recap: After rain washed out all on-track activity Friday at Bristol Motor Speedway, the Craftsman Truck Series took to the half-mile dirt oval for qualifying heat races ahead of the main event. Matt DiBenedetto started his heat race on the front row via a random draw and ended up sixth.

After starting 24th, he climbed inside the top 20 early and up to 15th by the end of stage one. Using some pit strategy, crew chief Chad Kendrick kept his driver on the track during the stage break and DiBenedetto inherited the lead. He held the top spot for 11 laps, the most in a single race in his Truck Series career, and ended stage two in fifth.

Following his only pit stop of the race, DiBenedetto restarted 15th and hovered right around the top 10-15 for the remainder of the race. By the time the checkered flag flew, he had rebounded to 10th, despite the flurry of cautions that filled the final stage. It was his second top 10 of the season and moved him up five spots to ninth in the championship standings.

Next Up: Long John Silver’s 200 at Martinsville Speedway Friday, April 14th at 7 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1 | MRN | SiriusXM NASCAR Channel 90
